The Outer Banks
Day 2 by Kenny & Kristen

Posted on 2017-07-15

Waking up the next morning the weather wasn't much better. We had some rain early on and as soon as it stopped around 7 we packed up camp and headed up to Nags head once more to attempt to get a spot at the early hang gliding class, but the weather didn't hold off and we decided to relax a bit and grab breakfast before we headed down on the long drive to Cedar point campground (pretty much at Emerald Isle.)

After Breakfast we stopped at a kmart to grab some small things we needed (pillow for Kristen as her Butt was sore from that seat, super glue for me to glue my charger back to the sticky tape it fell off of , and some bug spray).

From here, we hit the road to travel down the OBX. This was a pretty exciting drive as for points you are surrounded by water on both sides. It's almost desert like from the heat, but we had some good sun and wind along with a fantastic view.

This day was pretty neat as we got to use two ferries to cross some sections in the islands. The first ferry took about an hour from Hatteras to Ocracoke. The second was a much larger ferry from Ocracoke to Cedar Island which was about two hours. Before our stop on Cedar Island, we stopped for a late lunch at the Jolly Roger for fish tacos!

Once we made it to cedar island, we start to see some rough weather. Nearly 6 miles out from our campground we were held up by a huge downpour that left us at a gas station in emerald isle soaking wet. We didn't see any stop in the rain so we booked a cheap motel for the evening to give us a nice nights rest and keep us from putting up a wet tent and sleeping wet.
