Athens Greeece
Day 1 by Kenny, Kristen, Chad & Emily

It was a last-minute decision, but chad and Emily had come up with this idea to go to Greece and invite Kristen and I. So, we said sure! So, a couple weeks later we had everything booked up and roaring to go! I meant to grab a sweet airport picture but since I missed it – here is a sweet airplane picture!

We would meet up with Kristen in New York where we would all fly over to Athens Greece. We were planning on landing around 10am on Saturday morning so today (Friday) is going to be an all-day travel day. We are hoping to get a bit of sleep later (Fingers crossed!).

We didn’t get any sleep. Ha-ha – we gave it a shot but just a few hours are all we got. We arrived early in Athens around 9am local time. Once we made it out of the airport we caught a taxi and made the drive to the Office building where we were to meet our Airbnb contact. From there we dropped off our bags a bit early (we would pick them up later when we could actually check in to our room) and then walked around downtown Athens!

The city is huge, but the coolest parts we got to see today were the older historic areas like the Temple of Hephaestus and the Acropolis. These buildings are so old and have stood up so long it is really amazing to be able to walk in them and experience their beauty. We walked around exploring this area for a bit and grabbed some lunch at some point in there and then headed back to our bags.

Once we arrived at our room, which was really nice! It was a quaint little spread located in downtown Athens on the ground level – so there was a fair amount of road noise – but still really nice. We relaxed and cleaned up a bit just enough to not fall asleep and try and make it to a respectable sleep time to get on the right schedule.

After a bit of hanging out in the room, we decided to walk out around the area and just a couple blocks away was the Plakas Neighborhood which at night is BEAUTIFUL. We were actually caught off guard on this area because we ate dinner just outside of it. But once the sun was down, the marble streets were lit and there were plenty of shops and restaurants around.

The area actually became very lively as the night went on and we eventually stopped to grab some homemade Gelato which was fantastic! There were even some street musicians, which when I heard them pulled Kristen aside to dance a little bit because that just seemed like the right thing to do =].

Afterwards we headed back to our hotel and tried to do a little research on our next day before heading off to bed. The one thing I can note is that the beds in the room were not very spongy, and the one sheet on the bed was about 4 inches thick, which made for an interesting night.
