Athens Greeece
Day 2 by Kenny, Kristen, Chad & Emily

We woke up fairly early to get our day started. We weren’t sure how Athens would be early in the morning on a Sunday but we figured we would get an early start. We cleaned up and headed out to the restaurant area hoping to get some breakfast and an idea of how we wanted to tackle the day. The main things on our list were checking out the Acropolis and making it to our ferry that evening.

After breakfast, we walked around as folks were starting to wake up and the shops were starting to open and we discovered that there looked to be a running race happening in downtown a few streets from our room! It was a Women’s Race for The Cure run. After some minor exploring we headed back to our room and packed up our things to drop off at the office so we could explore the city for the last time before catching our ferry to Piraeus.

Our first stop was the Acropolis. This place was awesome! Located on top of this large hill in the middle of the city made of solid marble built in 475 B.C This thing was huge and massively detailed! With the Temple of Athena located inside and the Pantheon. The folks who built this back in that time were something else. After this we picked up some street grilled corn and walked around to the Panthanic, which is a large stadium where the Olympic games were at some point held. This was another solid marble structure that was just awesome to see in real life. I don’t know if I have ever see so much awesome stonework that was so old. Even the sidewalks were laid in marble just about everywhere we went!

After this it was about time to head back to grab our bags and head towards the cost to catch our ferry. We decided we would try the public transportation to get to Piraeus – so we took the metro. It was cheap and pretty crowded but only took about 30 minutes. Chad tried to convince me that we were not at our last stop when we were in fact at the right stop which almost cost us another delay but I convinced him otherwise and we made it successfully to the port without Delay (other than the fact that we could find where to get our tickets initially – but we got them, woohoo!)

Once we got our tickets settled se headed out to a part of the harbor to grab a seafood dinner. I tried Cuttlefish for the first time and it was pretty good – also I didn’t get poisoned! Which everyone was a bit worried about because apparently its poisonous if cooked wrong. We finished up and boarded out boat about 30 minutes before launch so we could get our room sorted out.

Finally, we set sail at 9pm to Chania. We had our room set up, two sets of bunkbeds! And we all got ready for bed and some sleep. We would be waking up early the next morning to get off the boat (around 6am) and figure out how to get to the Samaria gorge. It was a long day, but a pretty awesome one to finish off Athens!
