Crete
Heraklion by Kenny, Kristen, Chad & Emily

Today we got up at a fairly early time around 8:30am. I was hoping to grab a shower but I think the hot water in the building we were using was completely out – so a cold shower was my only option and I didn’t make it =\. We got up and headed down into Chania to grab some breakfast where we had pancakes, smoothies an omelet and 64 degree Celsius eggs. It was right down by the water as well which made a good start!

After breakfast, we headed down the coast to get to Heraklion. We made a couple stops along the way, one was a super cool beach that no one was on!

The other was a stop off a mountain that had a great view of the city down below. The drive over was a pretty fun drive really. Driving in Greece on the interstate is much nicer than the chaos that is in the city!

After we made into Heraklion, we found our room for the night which was a cool Airbnb that sported an outside rooftop deck and a spiral staircase! From there we went to the port to pick up our ferry tickets in the morning and figure out how to drop of our rental car.

After we picked up our ferry tickets, we headed in to the city to explore what we could before grabbing some dinner. The inner city was pretty neat, there were tons of shops and restaurants. The lions head fountain was right about at the center of the city which we used for reference as we navigated.

At one point, we ended up walking to the south side of the city where we found several parks that made for a very comfy and home feel. It was really nice to have so much green inside a tightly packed madhouse of people.

Once we made our way back to the lion’s head fountain, we headed back to the coast to find a place for dinner. We stopped at this one section that had a great view of the water and as we watched we tried all sorts of interesting fresh fish from the area. Chad had one of the best which was Octopus in vinegar!

Once dinner was over, we walked around a bit more because Kristen was in the mood for some baklava – however we were unable to find any! So, we grabbed this weird twig like baklava replacement and made our way back to the car. This treat had very tiny strands of something on it which made it pretty interesting – it was tasty though!

From here we headed back to our room to clean up and get ready for another early start to catch our ferry over to Santorini!
