Kristen and I decided to hike Crabtree falls after meeting up in Lynchburg VA prior to Christmas. The goal ws to hike the falls and then continue on to Spy Rock which is about 7 miles fromthe start of the Crabtree falls trail.
After starting, we quickly realized the first mile or two was going to be pretty difficuld mainly because the stairs up the falls had iced over making the assent pretty tough. This only lasted until we hit the top of the falls however when the weather warmed up what felt like 20 degrees! The falls were delightful though and after we hit the top we decided to stop for lunch.
After enjoying our super good turkey and cheese sandwhiches, we continued on towards Spy rock. In order to get there you have to take a laft onto Jefferson National Forrest camping grounds and walk about a mile up the road until the Appalachain trail crosses over the road. From here you take a right and walk until you hit Spy rock. Unfortunately we were on a time limit this day. We made it about a mile out from Spy rock before we had to turn back =\
We did however decide to make out or stop at what we thought was Spy rock, so we had a sit and enjoyed the view with a snack of carrots and celery and what Kristen thinks a normal snack is of Apples and chedder cheese. I was not a fan of this snack, but it something normal to folks who have lived in Wisconsin for some time =]
After our snack we headed back down the trail to our car. the decent was much easier as most of the ice had melted from the bottom of the falls. Over all this was a really fun hike, but depending on the day you may need more time than you think if going all the way to Spy rock!
