Bread.
People love it and some people dont. We are on the side that likes it - is that the saying?
We dont go through a lot of bread, but we have recently become very keen on some specific bread. In this case - Dave's Killer Bread. We really like it - but it costs about $6 on average (my best guess) to buy from the grocery stores available to us. So - we've decided to try and make it for ourselves and see if we can consistently make it cheaper than we could buy it ( and if it takes to long to even worry about).
We purchases all the ingredients from a recipe we followed and initially only got the ingredients that were convenient for us - meaning we didn't shop around for the cheapest ingredients, but we didn't purposely get expensive name brand ingredients either - just whatever we *could* get.
In the end, the bread came out fantastic. The loaves were a bit smaller than normal sized loaves but we were able to freeze some to keep it longer. The only preservatives in it are the ones that may be in the individual ingredients.
Here is the Scientific calculations that Kristen has come about ( to the highest degree of our uncertainty)

Keep in mind that's $5.36 per two 3/4 size loaves. In reality, its probably about the same size as Dave's thinly sliced bread. So this comes about about half the price! AND it makes the house smell great!
