Day 6 - Niagara Falls to Saratoga Springs, NY by Kenny & Kristen

Posted on 2020-08-21

Day 7 started a bit rough. We didn't pop a tire or lose a gas cap (again) but by golly if everything we touched didn't fall over, explode or spill. We woke up a little after 6 and were planning to get an early start, but the van battery was dead. I tried to make breakfast while Kenny jumped the van and proceeded to first explode and then spill oatmeal all over Kenny's shoes and some of the van. ![blogPics](/static/img/172/oatmeal.jpg "Oatmeal Explosion") And it went on about like that for a while. We finally ended up leaving WalMart around 9:30. But that's how it goes sometimes. I told Kenny to pretend our breakfast was magic and would restart the day. We hit the road and drove through some beautiful New York countryside, it almost looked like home in North Carolina. We didn't have any big hikes for the day, so I found us a running trail right beside a creek in Scottsville, NY. We went on a 5 mile run on the Gennesse River Greenway and then cleaned up in the creek. ![blogPics](/static/img/172/path.jpg "Gennesse River Greenway")The coolest part was the George bridge which you could jump off of in to the creek and there was a rope swing. Naturally Kenny proceeded to flip off of both. ![blogPics](/static/img/172/bridge.jpg "Bridge Jumping") We grabbed a quick lunch and jumped back in the car to try and make up time to Vermont. After driving for some time more, we made a stop at Oneida Lake to stretch our legs a bit more and play catch (yep, we busted out the mitts and threw the ball around - reference to our van intro if you were wondering why we had gloves) ![blogPics](/static/img/172/catch.jpg "Quick stop to play catch") The lake was really pretty and gave a very calming and tranquil vibe so it was a great pit stop to relax at. ![blogPics](/static/img/172/lake.jpg "Oneida Lake") As we were trying to make it as far as we could, we stopped at Gems Along the Mohawk and cooked some dinner (This was also an entry point to the Adirondack trail but we couldn't find it). ![blogPics](/static/img/172/dinner.jpg "Dinner by the van") #### Kristens Vanlife Tortellini - 1 can of chicken - 1 can of peas and carrots - half a bag of tortellini of your choice - half a can of a red sauce of your choosing - your favorite amount of dehydrated spinach After dinner, we kept of moving but made a quick stop in the town of St Johnsville at a *Stewarts Shops* for some ice cream ( which made a great milk shake for **cheap**). Once we had our ice cream we made it to Saratoga springs before we called it for the night.
